Indeed, due to having only TAMU in Texas, many students ate unnecessarily discouraged from going into veterinary medicine. Others don't give up and attend vet. school in other states or even in the Caribbean.
00:27:12	Rachel Cywinski:	The people who teach fractions in schools with general elementary education are often people who chose elementary because they fear math. Do students in schools that have math specialists in elementary do better? That is the theory.

00:29:41	Becky Moening:	Rachel - you bring up a good point about elementary teachers who fear math! Often their math phobia is transferred to students! So I would tend to agree with that theory that math specialists at the elementary level would make a difference!
00:31:33	Rachel Cywinski:	One of my veterinarians looked up the correct dosage for my dog on the Internet but did not account for the use of kilograms on the Internet. I went through the math with her because what she prescribed was actually more than double the maximum dose. Every calculation is essential.

I've been approached by our nursing dept to maybe do some sort of seminar or 1 hr course to help teach the conversions/dosing calculations.  I have their book to reference.  It would be good to discuss more on your set up.
