  • 1.  IMPACT in Action - Upgrading the "Golden Rule"

    In a Walden National Faculty Meeting, the presenter shared a slide to upgrade "the golden rule" from "Treat others as you want to be treated" to "Treat others as they want to be treated" (L. Walsh, personal communication, January 28, 2022). Her point was that as faculty, we should think about our students and create a welcoming environment for them.   

    How do you create a culture where all students belong?

    My sister, who is the executive director of a small wildland conservation organization, started adopting this philosophy several years ago with respect to managing her employees, board of directors, and relationships with the public.  She calls this the "platinum rule".  I like having a name to hang on this standard of interaction.

    I love that idea!  I have a presentation at the Walden National Facuty meeting on Friday of this week.  I would love to mention the Platinum rule!  Thank you for your comment.  How do you create a culture in your classroom where all students belong?
