Shared leadership and collaboration is a work in progress. It requires a great deal from each of the participants, but it takes someone to lead it to make it happen. At times of crisis, it is a matter of institutional survival as we face increasing uncertainties. This new type of leadership in creating faculty ownership of professional development is one way to prepare us for times of crisis, as it will unlock a new capacity for collaboration and innovation. It teaches us to have a sense of common purpose and shared responsibility and build upon our shared principles to guide decision-making.
