Many of us are in different stages of implementing mathematics pathways on our campuses. Further, implementations may look different depending on your local context. Please share what the implementation looks like on your campus.

What pathways did you develop? How far along are you in this work?  What are next steps?
    Any words of advice?

My school is still in the process of creating our pathways. We also deleted all of our specialized transfer degrees and only have an AA in General Studies and an AS in General Studies. The pathways for these degrees are the general education courses and then the transfer guides to one of the three state universities. We still have Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in the career and technical areas such as nursing, construction trades, and others. All of the AAS degrees have pathways developed for them. The transfer degrees are still in progress, but should be completed by March or April.

    Hi Kate,
Thanks for letting  us know what Coconino CC is doing around pathways. I wonder how your college handled the math pathways within the two academic pathways you developed. Did you reduce your college-level math courses down to just two?  Did you tailor your dev math so that college-math completion in a year is realistic for most student?

We have three pathways for math. One is quantitative reasoning course, which is for most majors. A second pathway is calculus for most STEM majors, and business calculus for people wanting to major in business at the university. Our quantitative reasoning course has two options, one is the traditional track and the other is a co-requisite model. Students in the co-req model need to take beginning algebra and then can go straight to the quantitative reasoning course. We do not have a co-requisite model for calculus or business. calculus, but I would like to develop these some time soon.

My school does have pathways to explain what general ed courses may be best for their field of study, and so the mathematics course can be specified in that pathway based on what they will need at the university or career. The AAS degrees do specify the math that is needed.

Our statistics course has a pre-req of any college level math class, so we do not have a co-req model for that course. This is a state-wide agreement of the statistics course. Statistics can satisfy the gen ed math requirement if the student can place into statistics.
