    • What local employment opportunities are available for students who are interested in upskilling in order to go straight into a career in data science?
    • Will there be internships or other opportunities available for students?
    • Are there any local government organizations or industries willing to partner with the program?

Hi.  Good luck finding employment and internships for students!

However, I'd like to suggest the potential for volunteer work.  Volunteer to data analysis work at your religious organization, political party, or other charitable organization.  It would help if you are already a member or volunteer there.  These organizations probably have data analysis needs with no one to perform them.  Assuming they will grant you access to their data, you will learn a lot about the organization and  their data analysis needs.  Do the work and write a report.  Then mention the report on your resume, although do not share any confidential data.  I'm sure this will set you apart from many of your competitors.

I have personally volunteered and performed data analysis work at a religious organization and for the political party of my choice.  I definitely learned a lot about both of them.

    Jerome -

Thanks for posting about students volunteering. I have had some students share with me that they have volunteered for their various communities. The downside is that many students at community colleges are already working part time or full time jobs while trying to keep up with classes and family responsibilities, and they have very little time left for activities that they are not paid for.

    Best,
    Rachel
