Lesson Study - A Professional Development Approach

Posted on behalf of Jacqueline Raphael - Education Northwest

Lesson study is a collaborative professional development approach that provides a framework for improving classroom learning and teaching. Participants work in iterative cycles, each of which consists of four stages: 1. Study and plan 2. Teach, observe, and debrief 3. Revise and reteach 4. Reflect and report.

A webinar was held on March 18th , “Improving Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Using Lesson Study.” You can find a link to the recorded presentation here and more information about our community college lesson study project here.

Additional information and resources about lesson study can be found here, including video interviews with faculty on each stage of the lesson study cycle under “Getting Started.”

See also CCRC’s lesson study resource page here.

Thank you for your interest and commitment to improving student outcomes. If you have questions about getting started with lesson study, please reach out to me by email. We would be happy to talk and help in any way we can.
