Introduction:

Google offers a cloud-based digital whiteboard called Google Jamboard that can help facilitate group work in your online and remote classes.

Requirements:
It is free to use, and although the instructor needs a Google Account, students do not. So, don’t worry if you’re not using Google Classroom. It does have LTI capabilities, so a Jamboard can be assigned to a student to work on and graded within your Learning Management System (LMS), but that is not covered in this video.

 Benefits:

Students have generally given fairly positive anecdotal evidence about using Google Jamboard. The comments have included that they like the opportunity to do work in small groups during class. You do have to have some level of trust with your students to use Google Jamboard, and you’ll likely find that if the students use the same Jamboards throughout the entire semester, they’ll use it as a space to collaborate with members of their group outside of class as well.

 Limitations:

Some limitations or things to consider when using Google Jamboard are that you can’t set up a Master Jamboard with pages for the entire semester in advance without risking students rearranging pages, adding pages because they need extra space to do work, or looking too far ahead. Also, if you have a large class, you’ll need to have a lot of tabs open if you want to see what every group is working on all at the same time. You also cannot paste an image directly on a Jamboard, but you can upload an image; however, this means taking the time to pre-load the image on every individual Jamboard or having the students upload the images themselves.
