The ASA/AMATYC committee is organizing a virtual workshop titled "Introduction to Data Science Technology Tools: A Virtual Workshop for Curious Two-Year College Teachers." The target audience for the workshop is TYC teachers who are curious about data science but have little or no experience with data science technology tools. The primary workshop goal is to provide participants with a brief overview and opportunity to explore four specific technology tools that are very useful for learning and doing data science: Tableau, R, Python, and GitHub.
This workshop will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 12-3pm ET, 9am-12noon PT. This workshop is free, but is only open to two-year college instructors or teachers who serve primarily students in associate degree programs. A Zoom link for the workshop will be sent a few days in advance to those who register here: https://forms.gle/ZchyttpS7dsmkhGN8.
The format and schedule for this workshop will be:
-
Welcome (5 minutes)
-

-
Tech Tool Overviews (60 minutes): Fifteen minutes spent on each tech tool, explaining how each it is used within data science courses
-
Break (10 minutes)
-
Guided Exploration (60 minutes): Workshop participants will select a breakout room to explore the technology tool of their choice through a student-facing activity provided by the presenter
-
