Let's Talk about Assessment!
This month is dedicated to exploring, sharing, and advancing practices of assessment in mathematics courses during the first two years of college. Assessment is more than grading—it’s about understanding student learning, improving instruction, and strengthening our programs.
These next several weeks we’ll host discussions and blogs focused on different aspects of assessment, drawing from real classroom experiences and current research. Together, we’ll reflect on challenges, innovations, and opportunities for growth in assessment practices that support student success.
Our conversations will revisit Chapter 5 of Beyond Crossroads (Assessment of Student Learning) and its recommendations in light of new research in teaching, learning, and assessment. As a community, we’ll consider how to update and reimagine these ideas to meet today’s needs.
We invite you to join the dialogue, share your insights, and learn from colleagues across the mathematics community. Together, we can shape assessment strategies that truly make a difference for our students, our courses, and our programs.
Your hosts for the month are Karen Gaines, Evan Evans, and Dennis Ebersole
