Introduction/Explanation of the tool -
GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use package. It can be used as a replacement of a graphing calculator such as T1-84. More importantly it allows instructors to create dynamic illustration of abstract math concepts, procedures and reasonings.

Requirements - There are desktop and web version of GeoGebra. GeoGebra is not an assessment tool.

The benefits of using the tool - GeoGebra makes learning an abstract concept much more meaningful. It helps students visualize related concepts and how they affect each other. The GeoGebra activities allows students actively engage in exploring the math reasoning themselves by playing with different parameters. Its interactive feature gives students opportunity to be the center of their own learning. Students’ comments include:

  • It is easy to use
  • It is interesting to see abstract concept being illustrated in a way it made sense.
  • Some GeoGebra activities are games which we learn by finding patterns, making connections and simulating real life situations.

The limitations of using the tool - For instructors, creating GeoGebra activities or illustrations can be challenging without knowing the tool well. However for students there are not much limitations for the use of the this tool.
