Folks -
A group from Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences (ACMS) has spent five summers working our way through books. To date, we have read Math in a Postmodern Age: A Christian Perspective by Bradley and Howell, Mathematics: The Loss of Certainty by Kline, Equations from God by Cohen, and What is Mathematics, Really? By Reuben Hersh. Each of these books takes on questions related to the history and philosophy of mathematics and provides a launching point for discussions around these topics from a Christian perspective.
This summer, we would like invite you to read and discuss Vern Poythress' Redeeming Mathematics. Poythress is a philosopher, theologian, and mathematician. He is referenced periodically in ACMS circles. Vern was a keynote speaker at the 1981 ACMS conference.
The book is available on Amazon OR for free on the author's website here.
Attending part/full book discussion meetings is equally appreciated as is popping in when schedule allows, or a topic is of particular interest. We would like each gathering to have a different host who would oversee and welcome folks to the study session as well as keep the discussion on track.
Meeting times: Thursdays at 11 am PDT June 12th thru August 7th on Teams.
